FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a Therapeutic Educational Consultant?
Therapeutic Educational Consultants are typically professionals who provide guidance and support for families with a struggling child, adolescent or young adult. They also can provide special services for children, families, programs and schools. Klein & Associates’ Randi Klein is also Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Joan Klein has a Master’s Degree in Special Education and specializes in local school placement and working with children and parents. What can I expect from our first meeting?
We will discuss beforehand if the child/individual is to be present in our first meeting and who else may be present as well. The first meeting is usually with the adults who are currently involved in the person’s day-to-day life and may last up to two hours. We will seek to understand in depth the client’s past and current behaviors from birth until the present time. It is our ultimate to goal to provide you with personalized support specific to your family’s situation and needs. We may also talk about what future options may be considered, but not recommend any until further assessments have been completed.
What if my child does not want to meet with a consultant?
This is a very common concern among families. We will take it one step at a time. During our initial meeting we can discuss options for presenting information to your child. Each situation is unique and our staff is very experienced communicating with new clients. We will provide you with several different approaches you can use to successfully communicate with your child.
Do I need a referral to work with Klein & Associates?
Although we do receive many referrals, it is definitely NOT a requirement. We are glad to speak with you anytime over the phone to review your situation.

As a result we have successfully helped many clients with complicated issues. All of our recommended programs are specifically tailored to each individual and family independently.
Why is seeing a Therapeutic Educational Consultant preferable from simply searching on line for programs?
There is a great deal of general information on the Internet, but without proper guidance one can easily become confused or misled. The selection process is crucial, and to determine the “right fit,” it’s often best for a third party professional with expertise and without any emotional or other ties to your child or loved one to make an unbiased analysis of his/her strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges.
What if I wait before intervention?
Studies show us that the further an adolescent falls behind in school for various reasons including substance abuse, the more difficult it is for that person to be successful. Without treatment, teenagers generally do not overcome unhealthy/unresolved problems even into adulthood. As they near adulthood more serious issues may present themselves and limit the options for treatment.
Are results long-lasting?
Results show the completion of a therapeutic program opens communication with family members, bringing families closer together and strengthening bonds. This emotional growth prepares the child for success academically and socially in their lives. As the child progresses through the program options may become available for them to transition into private/public schools once they return home.
We live outside of California – can we still work with Klein & Associates?
Absolutely! We can meet virtually via Skype or telephone conference. And if requested, we can travel to meet with you and your family in person.
